The wife of Omar Mir SeddiqueMateen, who killed 49 people and injured many at a gay nightclub in Orlando, has told the FBI that he said that he wanted to carry out a jihadist attack in the country but said that she did not know anything about his plans to launch the attack.
In the deadliest mass shooting in U. S. history, the gunman opened fire on people attending a party at a gay night club, Pulse in the city of Orlando. The FBI investigators do not believe that wife Noor Salman is not a co-conspirator in the attack in Orlando. The investigators said that she accompanied Mateen on trips to scout potential targets but it is not clear as to how much she knew about his plans to attack the night club.
The investigators said that she was with him when they visited Pulse and Disney Springs, an entertainment and shopping complex earlier this month. She also went with him to Disney World on 26 April, 2016. Disney security officials believe that the visit might have been to conduct reconnaissance.
Mateen is an American-born Muslim, who was inspired by some Islamic groups, and carried out the attack. FBI Director James Comey pointed out that there are no indications that the man was directed from outside the country and there is no evidence to prove that he was a part of any terrorist network. He believes that Mateen was clearly "radicalized," in part by the internet. Comey said that the FBI is also working to determine if the man recently targeted Disney World as a potential target.
